My couchsurfing host and owner of the company Humanergy and possible cousin David Wheatley told me about the paperclip challenge.
One Red Paperclip is a website created by Canadian blogger Kyle MacDonald, who bartered his way from a single red paperclip to a house in a series of fourteen online trades over the course of a year.

As I was leaving his house David ran inside and returned with a banana. “This is your paperclip” he told me.

My goal is to eventually trade up to a 45 ft, ocean going catamaran. Dave thinks it’s quite possible so long as I’m not fussy about the colour.

These are my trades so far:

Banana

As I left Kalamazoo my friend and couchsurfing host David Wheatley introduced me to the “The paperclip challenge” and started me on my way with one banana.

Banana – Candle

I met up with the documentary film maker Dan Billups in Chicago and traded the banana for a new, unopened scented candle.

Candle – Tarrot Jigsaw Puzzle

While couchsurfing with Scott and Cheryl in Irvine California their neighbours, Jan and Harris Shultz traded the candle for a brand new tarot themed jigsaw puzzle.

Tarrot Jigsaw Puzzle – Axe Throwing Game

While in Topsail, North Carolina I traded the jigsaw puzzle for an Axe throwing game with Colt Royal of Paradise Axe and Arcade, Topsail, NC.

Axe throwing game – Inverter

In Tallahassee Florida

Inverter – Jump Starter

While in Yulee, Florida, I traded the axe throwing game with my couchsurfing hosts for a Schumacher 1500a rugged Jump Starter.

Value $73- $105
